The Pros and Cons of Lash Extensions
Hi friends! About two weeks ago I got lash extensions at HMB Salon in Kaimuki and I want to share with you the pros and cons of lash extensions.
I've toyed with the idea for over a year but have always been afraid of losing my real lashes or possible eye infections. I finally decided to give it a try with HMB's Their Thursday Promo which gives you $50 off a full set of lashes. HMB is not paying me to say this, but they are still running the same promo every Thursday through the end of the year.
At HMB, a full set of classic lashes is $150 ($100 with the promo) and a full set of volume lashes is $200 ($150 with the promo). I decided to get the classic lashes (seen above) since it was my first time. From my understanding, classic lashes is when one lash extension is applied to one real lash and volume lashes is when 4 lash extensions are applied to one real lash. If well taken care of, lash extensions can last up to four weeks. The whole process took up to two hours and it was hard to keep my eyes still and closed because I would dose off and then get scared that I would be sleeping and move my eyelids but my lash esthetician was good because she reminded me to stay calm through the whole thing.
In the two weeks that i've had the extensions, a few have fallen out (I would say 10 total) but it still looks full for the most part. It also feels like my left set is falling out quicker than my right set. I'm a left side sleeper and so I suspect that's the reason why that's happening. That said, here's my list of pros and cons of lash extensions.
1. It's convenient.
Lash extensions are super convenient being that you don't have to apply mascara, but it does not make putting on your makeup any faster, lol.
2. It makes you feel beautiful 24/7.
The first morning I woke up with lash extensions, I was like damn girl! 💁🏽 I look wide awake and my eyes were somewhat twinkling. I felt so beautiful without makeup and continue to feel that way even two weeks after.
1. You can't sleep on your tummy.
Sorry tummy sleepers! If you absolutely can't see yourself learning to sleep off your tummy then lash extensions might not be ideal for you. It is natural for the lashes to get criss-crossed but sleeping on it might bend or break it causing you to lose your lash extensions quicker.
2. It's a little hard to shower, but it's not a deal breaker.
After getting your lash extensions, it is suggested that you don't wet your lashes for 24-48 hours. When I first wet my lashes in the shower, the water bowled up into the lashes, then when I tried to open my eyes, it went straight in my eyes making my contacts feel itchy. But then I couldn't rub my eyes making it hard to relieve the itchiness. But, it gets better over time so this con is not a deal breaker.
3. It's high maintenance.
Just like acrylics, you need to keep up with your lash extensions. And just like acrylic nails, it's cheaper to fill your lashes at 3-4 weeks than it is to start fresh with a new, full set.
Even though my list had more cons and pros, the cons don't out weigh my decision to get a lash fill. I kept telling my friends that I wasn't sold on trying it again, but I like how convenient it is and how it makes me look. And if your lash esthetician is super cool like mine, he/she will most likely (and should!) customize our full set to match you and your style.
