My 2016 Beauty Faves! Best of Hair, Makeup, and Skincare
One of my favorite things to do at the end of the year is binge watch best of beauty videos on YouTube. I love seeing all of my fave beauty bloggers' favorite beauty products from throughout the year and I thought it would be fun to share my 2016 beauty favorites with you. YAY!
A good chunk of these products launched in 2016 and the others have been on the shelves for a while but have made its way into my beauty collection as 2016 beauty faves. If you have questions about any of the products, please feel free to leave it in the comments section so we can talk more. This is my last post of 2016 so I wish you a blessed and prosperous 2017! - Jessika
2016 was the year I finally decided to go blonde. With this new hair came the need to up my hair product game to preserve the life of my new and very expensive locks. In my last brunette to blonde post I raved about the Oi conditioner and hair oil. The conditioner is a great deep conditioner for dry, damaged hair and the hair oil is good for repairing and protecting. I like to use the hair oil on wet hair to seal moisture in. I also use it before heat styling.
In between salon visits I use Pravana The Perfect Blonde shampoo to keep my hair from turning orange. The Perfect Blonde line is one of the cheaper high end hair products that actually work. I also finally got my hands on the Ouai Repair conditioner and love the smell! Jen Atkin did an amazing job and I love The Ouai haircare line so much.
2016 was also the year that I invested in hair styling products to style my textured bob/lob. First of all, I freaking love the Living Proof Dry Shampoo (see it on Beauty by Jessika: 1, 2, 3, 4). This product doesn't mask dirty, oily hair and it really does feel like it cleans it. The residue doesn't make hair feel heavy which is perfect for re-styling second day hair. I've also been loving the Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray and Matte Pomade. I use the texturizing spray to add volume to my roots and I use the pomade to make the ends of my hair to create a more piecey, textured look and to control crazy baby/broken hairs. The pomade has a light, gardenia scent that smells heavenly throughout the day. If you need more volume and texture but less products, the Davines This is a Texturizing Dust is an amazing all in one product. Sprinkle the dust onto our scalp to create ultra lift and sprinkle it into the palm of your hands and work into the ends of your hair to create that lived in, choppy bob/lob look.

For makeup, 2016 was the year that I started off extra with smokey eyes and false lashes and ended it natural with no eyeshadow and lash extensions. As a beauty blogger I try to keep up with all of the trends regardless of my occupation. I work a 9 to 5 job so a lot of my smokey eye looks have no business being in the office. Tartelette in Bloom was the perfect eyeshadow palette for day to night makeup.
This year I broke up with matte foundations and was all about that glowy skin. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation was a well-loved foundation in my makeup kit and the Loreal Pro Glow Foundation was the drugstore foundation i've been looking for all my life. I also dabbled a lot with highlighters. My faves are Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl highlighter in 'Gilded Honey' and 'Ballerina' and the 'Ultralight - Bronze' Radiant Luminizing Drops from Sephora Collection.
Anastasia Beverly Hills is my jam for all things eyebrows and the Brow Definer changed my life. This is a great product to fill in brows that are already full. For lashes i've been all about wispy, dramatic looking lashes and my faves are 'Misha' from Koko Lashes and 'Slayla' from Flutter Lashes. For blush, I finally got my hands on Wet N Wild's new Color Icon blush formula and picked up 'Rose Champagne'. It's the perfect rosey-bronze color and I wore it almost every day during Summer. My go-to Fall/Winter blush is Nars 'Goulue'. As for lipsticks, i've been all about the Liptensity lipsticks from Mac. The formula goes on creamy but dries semi-matte. If you want to only apply lipstick in the morning and be done with it, this is the formula for you.

2016 has been the year of skincare for me. I did lots of research on the best products for oily skin and hormonal acne. I would say that I've built about 90% of my skincare routine but being the true beauty blogger that I am, I'm always down to try new products.
I finally switched out my favorite drugstore cleanser for teenage skin for the Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser that treats hormonal acne. This product was key in clearing up acne patches that i've been trying to kill with extra strength topical for years. Kiehl's has been another huge addition to my skincare routine. I use the Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil to remove my makeup, the Midnight Recovery Concentrate to hydrate and repair my skin overnight, and the Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment to moisturize the dry patches under my eyes during Winter. The beauty community went a little crazy when Tatcha launched it's Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel but it was one of my faves and best working Summer moisturizer. It was also the most expensive skincare product I ever bought, but for good reason.
The Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist is the newest addition to my skincare routine and I can't live without it. I use it whenever I feel like my skin is dry and tight. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Marine Boosting Spray has also been a staple in my skincare routine, but if I were to choose between the two, Pixi would win in terms of rehydrating my skin and Tarte would win as a makeup setting spray.
